Whether you're looking for a leisurely day trip or planning to spend a night or two elsewhere before returning to the peace and authenticity of Naxos, there are endless possibilities.

Why Naxos is the Perfect Base
With regular ferries throughout the summer, Naxos offers easy access to neighbouring islands. Unlike some of the busier destinations, it combines stunning beaches, mountain villages, ancient history and wonderful food while still feeling genuinely Greek. It is the ideal place to return to after exploring elsewhere.
Day Trip: Paros
Just 30–45 minutes away by ferry, Paros makes an easy and enjoyable day trip.
Explore the charming harbour town of Parikia, visit the beautiful Church of Panagia Ekatontapiliani, then head to the picturesque fishing village of Naoussa, with its waterfront cafés, boutique shops and narrow whitewashed streets overflowing with bougainvillea.
Paros has a sophisticated feel while still retaining plenty of Cycladic charm.
Day Trip: Koufonisia
If crystal-clear turquoise water is your dream, Koufonisia should be at the top of your list.
This tiny island is famous for its white sandy beaches, incredible swimming, relaxed atmosphere and wonderful seafood tavernas. It's small enough to explore on foot, following coastal paths from one beautiful beach to another.
Many visitors say Koufonisia reminds them of what the Greek islands were like decades ago—peaceful, welcoming and wonderfully unspoilt.
A Local Secret: Exploring the Small Cyclades
If you'd like to discover a quieter side of island hopping, head across Naxos to the peaceful east coast. During the summer, small excursion boats operate from Panermos, just south of Moutsouna, taking visitors across the sparkling Aegean to Koufonisia in around 20 minutes. Many trips also include Kato Koufonisi, hidden coves, sea caves and spectacular swimming spots.
The drive to Panermos is part of the experience itself, winding through mountain villages and dramatic landscapes before reaching one of the island's quietest corners. It feels like stepping back into a slower, more traditional Greece and is one of our favourite ways to explore the Small Cyclades.
Day Trip: Delos and Mykonos
History lovers shouldn't miss a visit to Delos, one of Greece's most important archaeological sites and, according to mythology, the birthplace of Apollo and Artemis.
Walk among ancient temples, markets, mosaic floors and the famous Terrace of the Lions before continuing on to nearby Mykonos. Spend a few hours exploring Little Venice, the iconic windmills and the maze of narrow streets before returning to Naxos.
It's a full day but one you'll never forget.
Overnight Escape: Amorgos
For dramatic scenery and a slower pace of life, Amorgos is hard to beat.
Famous for the film The Big Blue, the island is known for its towering cliffs, crystal-clear sea and breathtaking Monastery of Hozoviotissa, which clings impossibly to the mountainside.
Take time to wander the beautiful Chora, enjoy long walks through the hills and discover secluded swimming coves. This is definitely an island to savour, so we'd recommend staying at least one night.
Overnight Escape: Syros
Often overlooked in favour of its more famous neighbours, Syros is one of the true gems of the Cyclades and deserves far more attention.
As the administrative capital of the Cyclades, Syros has a unique character. Its elegant capital, Ermoupoli, is unlike anywhere else in the islands, with magnificent neoclassical buildings, marble-paved squares, grand mansions and a lively waterfront lined with cafés and restaurants.
Climb to the medieval settlement of Ano Syros, where narrow cobbled lanes, colourful houses and spectacular views stretch across the Aegean. Spend the afternoon on one of the island's quiet beaches before returning to Ermoupoli for dinner as the town comes alive in the evening.
Syros is an island best enjoyed slowly, and we always recommend staying overnight to experience its atmosphere after the day visitors have gone home.
Overnight Escape: Milos
If you have a few extra days, Milos is well worth adding to your itinerary.
Known for its extraordinary volcanic coastline, the island is home to the surreal white rocks of Sarakiniko, colourful fishing villages, hidden sea caves and some of the best boat trips in the Cyclades.
It's an island that rewards those who stay for several days.

Practical Tips for Island Hopping
We recommend using the Ferryhopper app to compare ferry routes, operators and prices.
During July and August it's wise to book ferries in advance.
If you're travelling outside the peak season, there is often more flexibility.
Always allow plenty of time if you're connecting with an international flight, particularly through Athens.
Sea conditions can occasionally affect ferry timetables, so avoid making very tight connections.
